You will be feeding your baby often, and having clothing that provides easy access to your breasts can make feedings that much easier.

Nursing Mom clothes have become much more stylish, and many women find that they still enjoy wearing these garments long after their baby stop breastfeeding.

If you would like to purchase clothing made for nursing mothers, however, there are plenty of designs and styles to choose from. With a slit or a flap in the front of the garment, nursing clothes can make breastfeeding easier and more discreet.

There are lots of nursing mom clothes ranging from casual wear, formal wear to even professional outfits. You can find a variety of blouses, shirts, tank tops, bras, dresses, and sleepwear made especially for nursing moms.

Here are some examples of the types of nursing mom clothes available that you might want to add to your wardrobe:nursing mom bra

A good nursing bra is a must for any nursing wardrobe. It has special clips, snaps, or hooks that move over or pull down so you can feed your baby without affecting the support structures of the bra or having you take off your bra. It is comfortable, provide support for your heavy, milk-filled breasts and fit you well. Unlike, your regular bras that will lose support faster due to the pulling out of your breast

Always buy a bra made from a natural, breathable, absorbent fabric with soft cups. Sometimes nursing bras can become wet when the breast is over filled with milk, even with nursing pads, and an absorbent fabric will leave you feeling much more comfortable.

The nursing tank top or nursing Cami is very helpful during breastfeeding, so it is needed in your wardrobe. It’s very soft and it has sides that you can unclasp and pull down like a nursing bra, these comfortable tops allow easy access to your breasts for breastfeeding.

If you have to open, lift, pull aside, or unbutton your shirt or dress, having a tank top underneath will give you a nursing tank topbetter feeling of coverage. Choose a tank top with wider arm openings or a lower neckline so that you can push the tank aside or pull it down to accommodate your needs.

Your abdomen and half of your neckline will still be covered when you lift up or unbutton your top layer, so it’s an easy trick to feel less exposed.

Nursing tank tops can be worn alone on a hot day and it can also be worn under other clothes and at night.

Nursing Sleepwear It doesn’t matter if it’s a nursing tank or a nursing nightgown, a comfortable sleep is what you need to enable easy access to your breasts for those nighttime feedings.

Good nursing sleepwear allows you to breastfeed your baby easily and get some more sleep before the next feeding.

Nursing Outing Wears. Formal Outfits

Breastfeeding fashion has come a long way. When you want to dress up a little, go out to dinner, or head off to a family party, you don’t have to worry about what to wear. Stylish and flattering nursing dresses and formal wear are available.

Nursing shirts and blouses come in so many styles and colors. Nursing tops may have sides that pull over. Button down, or pull up.

Peasant blouses can make you look great in any outfit. You can join a peasant blouse with a skirt, pants, jeans, or Nursing peasant blouseshorts and look casually gorgeous at any time. With a wide neck opening and tie closure, peasant blouses can easily be opened and adjusted for nursing your baby at all time

There are also styles that don’t look like nursing tops at all. You might even continue to wear some of your nursing tops, long after you wean your baby.

A V-Neck or Scoop-Neck T-Shirt is a casual and comfortable wear, you can easily pull out your breast from the top and breastfeed your baby. If you’re worried about stretching the neck out too much, pick the ones that’re blended with polyester or Lycra because they offer more bounce in the fabric.

Whether you’re looking for something for work or a night out, the wrap dress is a nursing mama’s best friend. Most dresses are awkward to wear when you’re nursing, especially ones that zip in the back, so a wrap dress is the perfect solution. With one layer of fabric draped in a crisscross over the other, you won’t find it difficult breastfeeding your baby in this outfit.

Jumpsuits are  formal outfits that can easily be worn by breastfeeding moms for outings and parties. It is a modest nursing dress that can allow moms nurse their babies in the public without getting stressed out or worn out.

Breastfeeding Accessories

Nursing scarfAdding a Scarf to Your Outfit will help you cover leakage of breast milk while you are in public and also when breastfeeding your baby you can wrap a scarf around you and your baby to aid privacy. It is better to choose wider scarves in thin fabrics so that you don’t feel weighed down

If you wore a Bella Band during your pregnancy, you might still want to continue with it since it will help put your tummy back to shape and provides extra torso coverage, too. If you are the type that pulls your shirt from the bottom when nursing, a Bella Band adds a layer of tummy coverage without having to wear multiple shirts.

  1. This is a very informative post. I especially like the idea of gravitating to patterns to cover up milk stains. You should do a stand-alone post on nursing bras. Back when I was nursing I was hard pressed to find affordable, cute and comfortable bras. In fact, I don’t know if I ever found one that fit all three categories! Please let me know if you accept my challenge to find a nursing bra that fits that mold!

  2. Hi Pat. you website is very well organized. I was able follow right along. I am mother of 6 grown children and nursed 4 of them If had your information right form the star I would’ve been much more comfortable . I sure could have used a scarf in my day we stayed at home most time anyway and not many came to visit you just you mom. I did learn to per- prepare as you each one came along like you are saying and that does help a lot, I have helped my three girls with there breastfeeding journey and well the were pretty frustrated . I dint do as well as you are doing here. Keep up the good work.

Moreover both the baby and his mother should be in their comfort zone. It’s really necessary to have nursing mom clothes for the betterment of our baby. Great post on clothes for nursing moms.  Both of my brothers’ wives had babies last month and they are both breastfeeding.  I know my one sister-in-law has a few nursing tops, but they both just seem to just wear what’s easy and works for them.  Do you have any stores that you suggest they shop at for the best nursing tops, or any sites online?  We are in Canada so it would have to be Canadian or a store that ships to Canada.  Thanks 🙂
